Telco Credit Union of Asheville was chartered in 1935 to serve primarily telephone employees assigned to the Asheville area. The Credit Union's charter was amended in the 1990's to include Select Employee Groups across the state. In 1996 we changed our name to Telco Credit Union & Affiliates to be more representative of our expanding field of membership. Now, in our continuing effort to effectively serve a growing credit union family, we have acquired a Community Charter allowing anyone in Buncombe, Burke, Catawba, Caldwell or Henderson county to apply for credit union membership.


You are eligible for membership in the Credit Union, now known as Telco Community Credit Union, if: (1) you live, work, worship or go to school in Buncombe, Burke, Catawba, Caldwell or Henderson county; (2) if you are employed by an existing Select Employee Group in a county outside our 5-county community charter coverage area; or (3) if an immediate family member entitles you to membership. Once eligibility is established and a membership share account is opened with a deposit of $5 or more, you have become a member of a unique financial cooperative. Your membership entitles you to many benefits including participating in the democratic process of electing directors at the Credit Union's Annual Meeting.


The shares in your Credit Union are insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. Share accounts are insured up to $100,000, IRA Shares up to $250,000.  "Your Insured Funds" is a publication available at your credit union office which details insurance coverage. NOT ONE PENNY OF INSURED SAVINGS HAS EVER BEEN LOST BY A MEMBER OF A FEDERALLY INSURED CREDIT UNION.
